Convert Cassette to CD

convert cassette to CDThere are many times when people need to convert cassette to CD – maybe an old high school performance tape that your parent’s recorded, maybe someone in your family providing an oral family history, it could be anything.

Convert Cassette to CD

Being in Austin, Texas we’ve been asked to convert a lot of cassettes. What’s interesting about cassettes is that they could be any length – a CD that has one track on it or 15 tracks requires the same amount of CD material. A cassette has tape inside it – duh! – but cassette manufacturing usually only put in enough tape for the content. They could be a total of 30 minutes – 15 minutes on each side.

When we are asked to convert cassette to a CD, most people don’t know how many minutes that particular cassette requires.

Also, one thing to consider is that cassettes are analog and CDs are digital. To transfer from cassette to CD will create perhaps more white noise on the CD that you don’t hear on the cassette. So if you need not only transfer but also some sound mastering, you will want to mention that to whomever performs the transfer.

For instance, when CDMaker has to convert cassette to CD, we do the transfer first and provide the CD. If after listening to the CD there are particular tracks that a client wishes to have cleaned up – they can email us with the track number(s) and then only those tracks have audio mastering performed and that’s just at an hourly rate. So clients have the choice of only cleaning up the portions of a track that they wish.
