DVD Duplication is where a pre-existing DVD blank disc is used and the data from your DVDR master is burned onto the blank disc.
If you’ve even done some home duplication, this is the process you used to make your DVD copies.
So while what CDMaker does to provide DVD duplication is very similar to what you do at home, the scale of how we do this is different than what you may be doing at home. For instance, the quality of our blanks and the quality of the disc drives that actually copies the data directly to disc is going to be much higher than where you may be purchasing blank discs at Office Max, copying on your computer and putting printed labels on top.

In order to duplicate, your DVD master must be on a single disc and the files in the desired order. The duplication process is not designed to author DVD formats.
There are a couple of sizes of DVD – namely DVD5 and DVD9 in duplication, a majority of what is done for duplication is DVD5.
DVD-5 holds 4.7GB and is supported by the DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW formats. It is also known as Single-Sided Single Layer. If you’re needing a DVD that holds more – you’ll get to a point where you can’t duplicate it you’ll have the manufacture it.

What’s challenging to remember is that DVD is a disc format and its also a video format. What we mean by that is you can use a blank DVD to simply copy files as if you were making a backup. In this case your files will be a list.
Also, if you have audio files that you want to have a main menu at the beginning and allow for a viewer to pick and choose what they see – then you’re using DVD like the ones you rent at Blockbuster. If you’re needing this its more appropriate to call it authoring and have a video expert do this as part of the scope of their work.
So when you send your master for duplication, ensure it is formatted as desired. In other words, don’t send your DVD files on a CD or send a bunch of files and assume that duplication will include authoring – it won’t unless you ask for it and pay for it.
DVD Duplication
DVD duplication is a terrific process when your need is less than 500 discs. Also, if you think there might be changes you want to make in the near future, DVD duplication gives you a lot more flexibility.
DVD Duplication
The downside to DVD duplication is that the cost per unit is higher than when you manufacture. But since your total dollar amount overall is less when you duplicate, you’ve tied up less of your cash into your product which is always a good thing in business.
